[18 Destinations] Mall Adventure in Magnolia

Throwback. We chose this for Destination #15 as it’s not every day that we go exploring some new malls within the metro. We have passed by this mall twice before while on the way to other destinations, but we haven’t really stopped and visited it until that one day in December when we crashed another family outing.

Robinson's Magnolia

It was Christmastime then, so don’t be surprised that I’d be sharing some photos with Christmas decor. The mall is Robinson’s Magnolia. It’s actually much like any other malls in the metro, but we kinda liked the huge open space at one side of the mall. Since it was night time, it was also adorned with nice lights.

Christmas tree

The huge Christmas tree was truly eye-catching. We saw lots of people taking photo opps right around it though. I just took a photo of the tree, as I’m not really much into this selfie thing.

Lego Christmas village

Prior to the craze of the Lego Movie, a movie which we also watched not too long ago, I took a photo of the Lego land on display at the mall. It was a huge Christmas village that really looked awesome. We were even amazed at how expensive some of the Lego collection sets were! (Php 10,000 & more)

gingerbread house

Then, there was the life size gingerbread house. You can actually pluck some of the marshmallows and cookies on the house and eat them! My daughter and niece actually did just that! Good thing there’s no witch around to catch them!

Robinson's Magnolia

Last but not the least, we enjoyed the outdoor park where we took some selfies by the water fountain. Glad we did as it started drizzling some time after. I guess that was the signal that it’s time to go home.

Destination #15 — Robinson’s Magnolia. Three more to go, with 2 more waiting to be drafted. Then, we’ll need to wait till summer time for the 18th destination. Well, that’s it for now! Till next update… ta-tah!

ABNKKBSNPLAko the Movie Mall Tour at SM City Manila

The date was February 2nd and it was a Sunday. It’s just a few days after the Chinese New Year celebration and I’m glad I’ve had rest. We don’t usually trek to the mall unless there’s something that need to be purchased or done. In this case, my daughter and I planned an afternoon at SM City Manila to grace the mall tour of Bob Ong’s ABNKKBSNPLAko the movie.

SM City Manila put out a plug that the whole cast was going to be there — Jericho Rosales, Andi Eigenmann, Vandolph Quizon, and Meg Imperial. I couldn’t resist not going as I’ve been a long-time Jericho Rosales fan.. yes, since his Pangako Sa ‘Yo days!

ABNKKBSNPLAko the movie mall tour

We arrived at the venue rather early and had to wait almost two hours before the program started. Nonetheless, it was all worth it. Since we purchased advance movie passes, we got to enter the event center and were seated comfortably while waiting for the show.

DJ Wowie Taylor

DJ Wowie Taylor of 92.3 was the event host. I believe the radio station is also one of the sponsors of the upcoming premiere night on Feb. 18, 2014 at SM Megamall.

Image Preview dance group

Opening the show was Image Preview, an all boy dance group.

Thyro & Yumi

Then, Thyro and Yumi were introduced. They were recent winners of Himig Handog and apparently wrote a hit song that was interpreted by Sam Concepcion. I must admit I didn’t know them, but we were rather impressed as they sang really well.

Shehyee & Donnalyn Bartolome

I was more surprised when YouTube sensations Donnalyn Bartolome and rapper SheHyee were introduced! It seemed they’re a hit with youngsters in the crowd! I really don’t know much about Flipmusic which seemed to have gone viral among the younger group.

Thyro, Yumi, Donnalyn Bartolome, and SheHyee also sang the theme song of the movie, “Tuloy Pa Rin.” I believe it’s a remake of an old song that I remember from the days of my youth. LOL! Anyway, I liked this part of the show and glad that I took a video of the performance.

Giselle Sanchez

Then, comedienne Giselle Sanchez, who is also part of the cast, was called on to perform a funny and entertaining number.

Meg Imperial

Meg Imperial plays the role of Gina on afternoon tv series “Galema.” She also joins the cast of ABNKKBSNPLAko the movie. She looks so pretty in person and also performed two numbers.

Vandolph Quizon & DJ Wowie

Vandolph Quizon, along with DJ Wowie, hosted a throwback “bring me” game. It was an entertaining and funny segment indeed with items ranging from oldest barkada photo to oldest company ID.

Andi Eigenmann selfie with fans

Andi Eigenmann had such a fun time performing, but it was rather difficult to record a video and take photos too as Andi was all over the place. LOL! She even took a selfie with fans while she was performing. 😀 Too bad my daughter didn’t go near as she would have loved to have a photo with Andi Eigenmann.

Jericho Rosales

My much awaited part of the program finally came and it was Jericho Rosales’s turn to entertain the crowd. He performed three numbers, all of which I recorded! You can view them on my YouTube channel : raincrystal

Cast of ABNKKBSNPLAko the Movie

It was an entertaining afternoon and evening indeed! And although I haven’t as yet read the book, I’m excited to watch the upcoming movie! It will be shown on Feb. 19, 2014. Do enjoy the trailer preview below…

Hope to see you too at the cinemas! Till next update… ta-tah!

Welcoming Chinese New Year 2014!

I read a quote once that when you keep doing what you’re doing, you’re crazy to expect better results. Okay, so perhaps that applies to more serious aspects of life and living. Mine is a lot simpler and less complicated.

vendors along Ongpin St.

You see, I live near the heart of the Chinese New Year celebration — Manila Chinatown. And yet, not once have I actually witnessed the annual celebration as we would simply stay home and enjoy a quiet night.

Lucky Chinatown CNY 2014

Let’s just say that since my daughter and I spearheaded her 18 destinations adventure last year, I’ve become more interested in happenings around me. This would include stuff I would normally take for granted.

Lucky Chinatown Walk CNY 2014

And so, although it’s a full day for her and we got home rather late and even had a late dinner, I still pushed through with the plan of trekking to the heart of the celebration. Long time ago when I was still in school, the Chinese New Year did not receive as much attention as it has been getting in the recent years. From what I recall, only the Filipino-Chinese community and schools really celebrated the occasion. Nowadays, the Chinese New Year is declared as a special non-working holiday for the nation. Indeed, one can not discount the growing influence of the Filipino-Chinese in the country.

Wishing Wall Lucky Chinatown CNY 2014

Our first stop was along Ongpin Street. I guess we were a tad late as we’ve seen a lot of people already heading home. The stage was also being taken down. Still, the street was filled with people and vendors selling balloons, lucky charms, and many more. I just took some photos and we moved on to the other venue — the Lucky Chinatown Mall. It’s not too far so we just walked there.

maneki neko cat Lucky Chinatown CNY 2014

The mall was open till late. There were still a number of people there waiting for the strike of midnight. We just walked around and looked for the highlights of the celebration and took some photos. There were the lighting of incense, the wishing wall, the horse mural, the maneki neko cat, among others.

Tully's Coffee

We then headed home but stopped at a coffee shop along the way — Tully’s Coffee. We’ve been meaning to try it but haven’t done so till tonight. Yey! It was another new experience for us! Perhaps it was just us… but we actually thought the coffee there tasted better than Starbucks. LOL! 😀

There went a new adventure for the New Year! Happy Chinese New Year to one and all! Till next update… ta-tah!

[18 Destinations] Birthday Weekend Adventure

Throwback Tuesday. It took me a while to write about this ‘coz this event happened last November, very close to when Typhoon Haiyan (YolandaPH) ravaged Central Visayas. It just didn’t seem appropriate at that time to be writing about some celebration.

Anyway, we — my daughter and I — were just invited to crash my brother’s weekend birthday celebration. It was kind of a last minute thing as the weather was rather bad the day before and the metro was given a warning about the bad weather. However, it all seemed to clear up the next day so I guess the celebration pushed through.

Microtel SM Mall of Asia

Destination #14 was Microtel near SM Mall of Asia. We were surprised to see that it was a rather busy spot. We previously checked into another Microtel Hotel and loved the spacious room and huge beds. This was no different. We got a corner room on the 9th floor. I love high floors! The main reason is the fantastic view one sees on higher floors. It’s great that this one looks out partly to the bay side area.

SM By the Bay

Mom joined us as well on this occasion. After settling ourselves a bit, we went to explore the other parts of the hotel, mainly the roof deck where the hotel pool is located. The view was totally fantastic!

Microtel lobby

However, my favorite part of the hotel was the lobby. The wifi signal was strongest there… and it’s FREE! LOL! 😀

bay walk area

We had dinner somewhere in the mall area and walked around the bay side. There were loads of people there despite the not too good weather — it was drizzling from time to time. Nonetheless, we did have a fun time. My daughter and niece even tried the Pirates ride.

We spent the rest of the night in the room, but did manage to get out to grab some takeout coffee at Starbucks, which was full even at such late hour. And we did stay up late as it was the night of the Miss Universe pageant as well.

roof deck pool - Microtel

Breakfast the following morning was a takeout from McDonald’s. Overall it was a fun weekend family bonding. Pretty cool too that we were one destination closer to target. Destination #14 done… 4 more to go, with 3 still waiting to be drafted. Till next update… ta-tah!

Attract Good Vibes into Your Life

I’m not the expert on this topic, but my method has really helped me a lot in attracting good vibes in my day to day life. And no, I’m not about to share a bunch of techno jargon or mumbo jumbo. I’ve always believed that life is simple, but we somehow have a way of making it complicated.

good vibes

If you want to attract good vibes, you need to believe in good vibes. Believing in it means living it in every aspect of your life.

When was the last time you caught yourself thinking negatively? Stop yourself if you do! The power is in your hands. To attract good vibes, you will need to be aware of what’s going on in your mind at all times.

I used to worry a lot, until I found a method that worked for me. And no, it didn’t happen overnight either. I had to work at it for some time before I developed the habit of believing in the positive.

The method was simple. I had a worry night (more like a worry hour) that was scheduled for just one night in a week, not longer than one hour. I’d take a quiet spot and acknowledge all the worries in my mind. Then, I would find time to relax, reflect, and meditate after the hour is up. I’d rather spend more time finding ways of solving problems rather than focusing and magnifying them to the point that leaves me powerless. No worries allowed unless it was worry night within the worry hour. You may want to try it out and see if it works for you as well.

Lotus position

If you want to attract good vibes, try going to bed on a positive mindset. That simply means think happy thoughts. You are after all setting the stage for the next day. In the event that some of your worry thoughts entered your dream state and you wake up on a sour mood, try this simple chant I wrote for myself (or you can come up with one for yourself too)…

“At the start of the day,
blessings be on my way.
And as the sun starts to shine,
everything will be just fine.”

At the end of the day, it is all up to you whether you want to attract good vibes into your life. But do remember it is in your hands. The techniques mentioned above are by no means the only ways by which you could attract good vibes. Life is all about discovery. Find your purpose. Discover what works best for you. Then go out and send good vibes everywhere you go.

success quote

That’s it for now. Till next update… ta-tah!

Give Thanks for Your Blessings

As I was about to blog about this topic, I found that my website was out of commission. It had to take a support ticket and several hours later before I could finally access it. And so, there’s more to be thankful for today as my website comes back online.

Each day is a brand new day, a chance to make a difference. I’ve always believed in that line. If you wake up each day, there’s a lot to be thankful for. So have you thanked someone today?

Indeed, why do I believe showing gratitude and appreciation is important? For one, when you’re grateful for the good things in your life, you tend to attract even more good things. It kinda reminds me of the Law of Attraction — you attract what you think.

When you show gratitude, your attitude exudes some kind of positivity that most people find attractive. I mean, who wants to be around a negative person all the time right? When you uplift others, they like being around you. Your circle of friends grows.

Showing gratitude brings you more success in your personal and professional life. Your relationship with others — family, friends, colleagues, and partner — tends to grow as well.

gratitude tree

So how do you start showing gratitude and appreciation? It’s fairly simple really. Start off by counting your blessings! Give thanks when you wake up in the morning and before you go to bed at night. Be thankful for all the blessings you now enjoy in your life, no matter how small it might seem.

post it notes

Keep a gratitude journal. If you need to, then jot down all the good things that happen to you daily. For this year, I’m starting on my own gratitude tree — my version of gratitude journal. I’m using an old drawing by my daughter and a booklet of little colorful post it notes. Each day, I will write something I am grateful and thankful for. By year end, I envision a canvass full of colorful post it’s. 😀

Lastly, use your talent to help people. We are blessed with qualities and talents that we can use to benefit not just ourselves, but others in general. If you have extra money, then give to the needy. If you have time, then volunteer at a local organization that helps the needy. Get involved in a cause you feel strongly about like saving the environment or promoting a green and clean community.

contentment quote

At the end of each day, take time to reflect and meditate on all the good things in your life. This helps renew your energy for the next day. It may take some effort and work at the start, but like all habits, it becomes part of your being when you consistently apply it in your life. Remember to give thanks for your blessings… today and every day!

Have a fulfilling 2014! Till next update… ta-tah!

[18 Destinations] Halloween Eastwood Adventure

Throwback Thursday. Destination #13 was our halloween adventure at Eastwood City. This adventure came in two parts. The first time we trekked to Eastwood Mall was to claim the movie tickets I won when I joined an online promo of Megaworld Lifestyle Malls. Mind you, I won 6 movie tickets!!!

Eastwood City

It was a rather rainy afternoon and the place really looked deserted. Wow! But then again, it was my daughter’s semestral break and it was a weekday too.

Eastwood Mall Open Park

We didn’t stay long that first time. We just watched a new movie that opened that day, “She’s the One” starring Bea Alonzo and DingDong Dantes. Then we hurried home ‘coz I have afternoon tutorials.

Eastwood City - City Walk Two

Since we didn’t get to use the movie tickets, an idea of a halloween getaway adventure popped up. Hey, we were trying to complete my daughter’s 18 destinations. We have time to take advantage of the semestral break before classes go back in November.

Microtel Acropolis

We remembered seeing a Microtel Hotel along the main road near Eastwood City and did our online research. Microtel Acropolis was offering some room promo at that time. We thought it best to book an overnight stay and bring Mom along so she could also enjoy her break. Since we were booked somewhere near, we could then take our time and need not hurry while we enjoy walking around the whole area.

halloween decor

Since it was halloween, we did see some awesome halloween decor in the area. As it turned out, there was also some activity scheduled that night — Sine Sindak 2013 by Cinema One. It was an outdoor screening of a scary movie. There was a short program and we even spotted Robi Domingo and Alex Gonzaga as hosts of the said program.

Sine Sindak 2013

Robi Domingo & Alex Gonzaga

Mom decided to go back to the hotel soon after since she didn’t want to miss her nightly TV programs. My daughter and I went back to enjoy going around the mall area, having dinner and ice cream later, and simply hanging out while we were people watching.

Eastwood Mall Open Park at night

I noticed that the area seems to come alive at night. It was definitely busier than the first time we went to claim my movie tickets. I guess there are quite a number of BPO’s or call centers in the area, and a number of people work the night shift. It was fun staying out late, but we soon got tired and decided to go back to the hotel too.

Eastwood Mall - City Walk Two

The main road seems to be quite busy even at that time of night. I snapped a photo of the main road as we were on the overpass bridge on the way to Microtel and it showed slow moving traffic on one side of the road. That was indeed interesting.

Eastwood City Main Road

Microtel Acropolis Hotel

Overall it was a fun and relaxing overnight stay at Microtel Acropolis. The room was pretty cold and the beds are huge and comfy! Mom and I shared one bed, while Bea enjoyed the other one to herself. Hotel wi-fi is great too! The only downside is perhaps that the hotel does not have a pool, but we’re not into that so it didn’t matter much. Breakfast the following morning was just as good. There we were enjoying destination #13 with Mom. Five more to go… with four more waiting to be drafted and posted. Till next update… ta-tah!
